First LIGHT
F + LIGHT = FLIGHT
A location aware dawn chorus that turns five recently reported birds near you into an ambient soundscape, wherever you are, whatever the season.
YOUR LOCAL DAWN CHORUS
First LIGHT
five birds, wherever you are, whatever the season
Five birds, one morning
First Light builds a small dawn chorus around where you actually are. Give it your location or enter a place, and it looks at recent nearby bird reports, chooses five species, finds recordings of their songs, and layers them into an ambient chorus.
The name is part of the idea: First Light is the moment the day begins, while the wordmark emphasizes F + LIGHT = FLIGHT. The product sits at that same intersection of place, birds, and the first light of morning.
Location becomes the interface
Instead of browsing a bird library, you begin with a place. First Light checks recent eBird observations within the surrounding area, favors birds reported more recently, and then pairs the selected species with recordings from Xeno-canto contributors.
The result is specific without being fixed. Run it again and you can get a new five bird chorus from the same place; change location and the whole soundscape changes with you.
Built to disappear into the background
Once the chorus is playing, individual birds can be muted, the mix can be replayed or shuffled, and Ambient Mode strips the interface back so the sound and changing dawn sky take over.
A postcard view turns the session into a small shareable artifact: a place, a date, five birds, and the feeling of sending someone a morning they could hear.
